Ledwith.org has been around in one form or another since 2000. Every few years I tear it down and start over, and in January 2025 I did it again: a fresh Hugo site with a new theme and a plan to write about technology, photography, family, and whatever else caught my attention.
The writing part went fine. The finishing part, less so. The domain wasn’t pointed at the new site, the About page promised things that weren’t there yet, and a few posts needed a second look. So this month I went back through all of it. Here’s what changed.
What’s New#
A new name. The site is now “The Ledwiths.” It’s a family site, and the name should say so. (The old name, “Ledwith Dot Org,” sounded like someone reading the URL over the phone.)
The domain works. You can reach everything at ledwith.org, over HTTPS, the way it should have been from day one.
A Family page. There’s now a Family page, starting with my son Edward, who’s studying aerospace engineering and has a far better website than I had at his age, mostly because the web barely existed yet. More of the family will show up there over time.
A real About page. The About page now covers where the Ledwith name actually comes from, with sources. Along the way I learned that a few things I’d read about the name didn’t hold up, and that our crest is a nice picture rather than a medieval grant of arms. Better to know.
A fact-checked air traffic control series. I wrote a six-part series on air traffic control in early 2025, when everyone online suddenly had an opinion on it. I went back through every article, corrected the errors, added sources, and rewrote them to sound more like me and less like a textbook.
An updated camera review. My Canon EOS R review now covers whether it’s still worth buying in 2026. (Short answer: for the right person, yes. Mine is still on my desk.)
What’s Next#
The big project is the family history: tracing where our branch of the Ledwiths came from, and getting the stories written down before they’re lost. That’s slow work, and I expect it to take a while.
